OPM DELIVERS IRON SHEETS TO SOROTI SCHOOLS
Soroti District has received 494 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to support schools affected by recent strong winds that blew off their roofs.
The consignment was delivered to the district headquarters on March 14, 2025.
The iron sheets will be used to restore school structures, including classrooms, staff houses, and dormitories, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
Among the benefiting schools are Obule Primary School, which will receive iron sheets for roofing a staff house, and Oyomai Primary School, which will use them for a teachers' house. Additionally, Tubur Secondary School will roof a boys' hostel, Ojom Primary School will roof two staff houses, and Gweri Secondary School will benefit from roofing a classroom block.
While receiving the iron sheets on behalf of the district, Mr. Moses Esatu, the Acting Principal Assistant Secretary (Ag. PAS), expressed gratitude to the Office of the Prime Minister for its continued support.
Esatu assured that the iron sheets would be used for their intended purpose.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Soroti, Mr. Emmanuel Okia, also appreciated the swift intervention by the OPM.
Okia noted that the affected schools had been struggling with roofing challenges and had sought assistance through the district. He commended the government for responding promptly to the needs of the education sector.
Mr James Oede, District Education Officer -DEO has welcomed this intervention, emphasizing the importance of maintaining school structures to enhance learning.
“New roofing will safeguard students from weather-related disruptions and ensure a more stable academic environment,” said Oede.
