GENERAL ELWELU URGES SOROTI SECURITY TEAM TO STAY NEUTRAL DURING NRM PRIMARIES AND SUPPORT PEOPLE’S CHOICE

Lt. General Peter Elwelu, the head of the Teso-Karamoja Monitoring Mechanism, has called on the security team in Soroti District to remain neutral during the upcoming NRM primaries and allow the people to freely choose their leaders.

Speaking at a gathering of political leaders, security officials, and civil servants at the District Headquarters on Friday, 28th February 2025, General Elwelu emphasized that security forces should focus on maintaining peace rather than influencing the selection of candidates.

“The role of security is to provide peace and order, not to interfere with the democratic process or help decide who should be a candidate. Let the people choose their leaders,” Elwelu said.

He further urged the security team to ensure a peaceful environment for the primaries, allowing voters to express their will without fear or intimidation.

Meanwhile, General Elwelu encouraged local leaders to continue supporting President Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections, citing the President’s achievements in transforming the country.

“President Museveni has done a lot for this country, and his leadership has brought significant development. We must continue supporting him for the progress of Uganda,” he added.

General Elwelu’s remarks come at a critical time as preparations for the primaries and general elections gain momentum, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for transparent and unbiased governance.
