DISTRICT CHAIRPERSON URGES TUBUR RESIDENTS TO PLAN FOR URBAN GROWTH

Soroti District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Bob Owiny, has urged residents and leaders of Tubur Town Council to strategically plan for the growth of the urban centre following the completion of a new low-cost sealed road.

Mr Owiny made the remarks yesterday during the commissioning of a 0.5-kilometre low-cost sealed road in Tubur Town Council and a two-classroom block at Abule-Tubur.

The road was constructed at a cost of Shs459.4 million under the Roads to Industrialisation (RTI)/DANIDA programme for the 2025/26 financial year. The works were executed by M/s TABA Services Limited.

Mr Owiny commended the Government for investing in infrastructure in the area, saying the road should provide an opportunity for residents to expand economic activities and accelerate the development of Tubur.

“Now that we have the road, we should start thinking strategically about the development of Tubur as an urban centre. We need to attract businesses, encourage investment and improve services so that the people can benefit from this infrastructure,” Mr Owiny said.

He urged local leaders and residents to ensure that the growth of the town council is properly planned and coordinated.

“We should not look at the road as an end in itself. We need to plan properly and ensure that Tubur grows in an organised manner,” he said.

“More resources are coming, and we must be ready to use them well. Let us identify our priorities and make sure that the money is directed towards projects that can transform Tubur,” he said.

The Resident District Commissioner, Hajj Imran Muluga, who also attended the commissioning, urged residents to protect the road and other government infrastructure.

“This is a government investment for the people. The community must take responsibility for protecting the road and ensuring that it serves its intended purpose for many years,” Hajj Imran said.

He also encouraged residents to work closely with local leaders in maintaining the infrastructure and supporting government development programmes.

The leaders also commissioned the two-classroom block at Abule-Tubur, which is expected to improve the learning environment for pupils in the area.

Chief Administrative Officer Emmanuel Ssempala emphasised the importance of maintaining the newly completed infrastructure and called for continued cooperation between the district authorities, local leaders and residents.

Hundreds of residents of Tubur Town Council attended the commissioning ceremony to witness the completion of the infrastructure projects.

The projects are part of ongoing government investments aimed at improving infrastructure and service delivery at the local level.
