SOROTI DISTRICT LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY GIVES ICU LAND

Soroti District Local Government has finally handed over plots of Land to Iteso Cultural Union-ICU. The handover was held on Tuesday morning at the premises of the ICU in Soroti city. The plot of land includes plot 15-17, including offices used to host the East Kyoga Regional Police.

Two weeks ago, an unscrupulous section of the ICU council had organized the same kind of handover ceremony without the knowledge of Paramount Chief of Iteso, Papa Emorimor Augustine Osuban Lemukol. The ceremony then hit a dead end.

However, today's handover ceremony was legit and official even in the absence of the Papa Emorimor Osuban, who was represented by the Deputy Prime minister ICU, Ejalu Valerian.

In his speech, the Chief Administrative Officer, CAO, Soroti Mr. Muramira Aggrey Winston said “we hope that with the modest gift, the Iteso Cultural Union, ICU will be able to organized the institution on; “Moral stands and lose of identity,” In 2011, the district council of Soroti moved a motion to find and allow ICU, a home and this as council we were able to achieve, this according to the district speaker Hon. Stephen Olebe. Olebe meanwhile challenged that the issues of ICU should be handled amicably, “ICU, issues we need to find ways of handling them, as Iteso we are all concerned,” The Deputy Ekirigi ICU , Valerian Ejalu thanked Soroti district for offering ICU land saying right from the formation of ICU in 1997, the district allowed us to serve you free while here till to date. “Orop yesi Akuju Ekasulo Kus lo Soroti Ingarenikit Hon. Edoru kwape Chairman Apugan kon,” Meanwhile, the district Chairperson Hon.

Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu said as the district they have already identified with ICU, given them a new home and this should be highly appreciated. Edoru said because of being the first district in the Teso region, there would be no other district than Soroti to help ICU and that is why the council accepted the ICU request and gave them land. He, however, warned that ICU and politics should be separated, citing the internal wrangles within the ICU that have tainted a bad image. “My Elders, if you want politics, please join us and leave ICU peacefully, because so many bad things have been said about our ICU,” Edoru said.
