Residents of Awaliwal Sub-county in Soroti District are thrilled about the construction of a 16.5-kilometer road connecting Awaliwal and Gweri sub-counties. The road, which links Amukaru, Telamot, Awaliwal, and Obule Trading Center, is valued at UGX 143.5 million and is expected to boost local trade and transportation.
Peter Ebau, the LC III Chairperson of Awaliwal Sub-county, highlighted the strategic importance of the road, emphasizing its role in improving access to markets for farmers. "This road will enable farmers to transport their produce, especially to the Amukaru cattle market, ultimately boosting revenue for the community," he said.
Ebau also expressed his gratitude to the government for funding the project, noting that it will significantly enhance the transportation of goods to markets. "We are very excited as local residents because this road is crucial for economic growth. It will help us move commodities to the market more efficiently," he added.
The construction project was launched by the Soroti District leadership, led by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Paul Eseru. During the event, Eseru stressed the need for accountability, warning that the project must deliver value for money.
Meanwhile, project supervisor Ocung Denis emphasized the importance of community collaboration to ensure the successful completion of the road.
In addition to the Amukaru-Telamot-Awaliwal-Obule road, the district also launched other road projects, including the 6.4-kilometer Awoja-Anganya-Osimaling road and the 8.0-kilometer Oculoi-Adamasiko road.
Addressing the community, RDC Eseru expressed appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni for promoting development initiatives and partnerships with local communities. He specifically acknowledged the introduction of the Parish Development Model (PDM), which has played a crucial role in poverty eradication in Gweri County.
Eseru also issued a stern warning against the misuse of PDM funds, pledging to take action against those found mismanaging resources. His remarks underscored the district leadership’s commitment to transparency and responsible resource management.
The road construction project is expected to bring significant improvements to Gweri County’s infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth.
