KAMUDA SUB-COUNTY LEADERS VOW TO TRANSFORM COMMUNITIES AFTER INSPIRATIONAL FARM TOUR

Leaders from Kamuda Sub-County have pledged to bring change to their communities following an eye-opening benchmarking tour of BECO Farm, a model agribusiness in Okidoi Ocokican Sub-County.

The visit, which included both political and technical leaders, aimed to learn modern farming techniques and agribusiness practices that can be replicated in Kamuda.

Led by Agricultural Officer Okodel Amos, the team explored various agricultural enterprises at BECO Farm, including piggery, poultry, dairy farming, and fish farming. According to Okodel, the purpose of the tour was to expose leaders to innovative practices that can enhance agribusiness, fight poverty, and improve livelihoods at the household level.

“We organized this visit to learn from BECO Farm’s success in modern farming. By exposing our leaders to these practices, we aim to inspire change that will transform both the leaders themselves and the communities they serve,” said Okodel.

Okodel emphasized the inclusion of political leaders in the tour, noting their close connection to the local population. He believes that with the knowledge gained, these leaders are well positioned to share the lessons learned and encourage community adoption of modern farming methods.

During the tour, the leaders were taken through practical demonstrations of poultry and dairy farming. They were taught the steps to succeed in agribusiness, including rearing local chickens and other low-cost, high-impact practices.

Joseph Ebanu, the Kamuda Sub-County Chairperson (LC3), expressed his excitement about the new knowledge he gained. “I have learned so much today that I didn’t know before. I am now motivated to implement these practices and inspire others to do the same,” Ebanu said.

Alexander Agetu, the Senior Assistant Secretary of Kamuda, highlighted the need for a mindset change among community members.

“Many people lack the mindset to utilize the opportunities around them for development. This farm visit has inspired us as leaders, and we will now work to motivate our communities to adopt these practices for socio-economic improvement,” Agetu stated.

BECO Farm, owned by entrepreneur Teddy Wabomba Wanzunula, sits on four acres and operates as a model farm. Established in 2016, the farm features diverse enterprises, including piggery, poultry, apiary, and fish farming. Wabomba shared her journey of resilience and determination, demonstrating how a strong mindset and commitment can lead to transformative change.

“BECO Farm is an example of what is possible when people embrace innovative practices and hard work,” Wabomba said.

The Kamuda Sub-County leaders left the tour inspired and determined to implement the lessons learned in their communities, with the hope of improving household incomes and promoting sustainable agribusiness practices.
