HABITAT FOR HUMANITY EMPOWERS VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN SOROTI DISTRICT
Soroti, Uganda - Habitat for Humanity, a renowned NGO, has transformed the lives of 7 vulnerable families in Soroti district by providing them with new homes worth UGX 27 million.
The beneficiaries, selected based on their level of vulnerability, include orphans, people living with HIV, widows, and widowers from Tubur sub-county.
The keys to the newly built homes were officially handed over to the beneficiaries by Deputy RDC, Mr. Bakak Ronald, last Friday. Each household also received vocational skills training and startup kits to empower them economically.
Christine Alupo, a widow from Tubur sub-county, expressed gratitude, saying, "After my husband's passing 10 years ago, I've struggled to provide a decent home for my children. “This new house brings hope." Said Alupo.
Betty Aben, a single mother of nine, added, "We've endured hardship, sleeping in a small makeshift house. This new home will improve our lives significantly."
Michael Ocan, Project Coordinator, emphasized, "Decent housing is fundamental to accessing clean water, hygiene, and sanitation." Each house features: A pit latrine, A 3,000-liter water tank for rainfall harvesting bring to an average cost: UGX 27 million
District Speaker, Mr. Olebe Stephen, praised Habitat for Humanity's timely support, noting, "Many residents struggle with poverty."
Deputy RDC Bakak Ronald commended the NGO for its genuine commitment, saying, "Unlike briefcase organizations, Habitat for Humanity delivers tangible results."
