The long-awaited pledge from 2009 came to fulfillment today.
Government is expected to spend more than Shs 10 billion to buy motorcycles for 2,184 LC III chairpersons in the country.
Alupo says government is committed in fulfilling all the pledges amidst financial challenges to ensure that citizens get improved service delivery.
Victoria Rusoke Busingye, State Minister for Local Government says the maintenance and repair is dependent on the sub county budgets.
She acknowledges the cry of budget cut for the lower councils but reaffirms that the budget cut is affecting all the government sectors.
Hellen Adoa the Minister of State for Fisheries asked the chairpersons to use the bikes effectively but not for carrying girlfriends and turning it to Boda-Boda. Adoa challenged the leaders to be exemplary to Boda-Boda riders in the utilization of the bikes and avoid over speeding.
Joan Achom Alobo the Woman MP Soroti and Vice Chairperson Teso Parliamentary Group applauds the Vice President for being active in pushing for unfulfilled pledges in the region. She says the presence of the Vice President should be an advantage for the people of Teso to ask for the fulfillment of promised pledges to better service delivery.
Emmanuel Ekotu, the LC III of Oculoi sub county, Peter Ebau the LC III Awaliwal, Simon Peter Opolot, the LC III Gweri sub county and others commended the Government for responding to the long awaited pledge.
They are optimistic that monitoring and supervision of government programs like Emyooga, Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and the coming Parish Development Model will be effective as they now have access to transport.
