SOROTI ready to host International Youth Day Celebration

Preparations to host the International Youth Celebration are in high gears in Soroti district.

According to the district, it has already set committees in place and held more than five meetings to spearhead the National Celebrations shall be held in Asuret Primary Teachers Core College, in Asuret sub county, Soroti district in which the which his H.E President of the Republic of Uganda will be the main celebrant.

The day is meant to provide an opportunity for reflection and taking stock of what has been done to empower youth from all corners of the 193 UN Member States

The District Resident Commissioner Mr Kumaketch Salim, who is also the overall coordinator of the International Youth Day said the preparation are going on well.

“As a district we set to host the H.E the President to mark the International Youth Day, all activities towards the day are being managed, that includes mobilization of the community, security as well,” Said Kumaketch.
Kumaketch is now calling upon the all Ugandans to turn in big numbers to attend the event.

The District Community Development Officer, DCDO, Ms Margaret Acaya Emuria said the local organizing committee is in touch to the National organizing committee from the State House and Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.

Emuria said that Community mobilization has started, “we want ensure that all Ugandan’s especially the Youth celebrate their day,”

This year’s International Youth Day Celebration will be marked under the them Skills Development for Enhancement of youth Opportunities..
It in tradition to celebrate the International Youth Day is in conformity with the United Nations General Assembly resolution 54/120, that designated 12th August every year as International Youth Day to be commemorated by all United Nation Members States.
