Soroti District Local Government is set to disburse UGX 5.4 billion in Parish Development Model (PDM) revolving funds for the 2024/2025 financial year.
According to Joy Christine Apolot, Senior Commercial Officer and PDM Focal Point Person, the funds have already been sent to the SACCO accounts and will be officially disbursed to individual beneficiaries later this week.
“As a district, we are set to disburse funds to individuals’ beneficiaries of PDM, later this week,” said Apolot.
Apolot revealed that the beneficiaries have undergone training based on their selected enterprises, and the district has worked closely with them to assess the viability of their business plans and provide guidance on managing profits from their investments.
“We have engaged closely with beneficiaries to assess the viability of their business plans and guide them but also to trained them on what to do with on profit from their investments,” Apolot adds.
This comes after a successful disbursement of UGX 7.7 billion to PDM beneficiaries in the previous financial year.
Soroti District has a total of 54 registered SACCOS, one for each gazetted parish, and has formed 1,045 enterprise groups.
The Parish Development Model is a government strategy aimed at improving the incomes and welfare of Ugandans, with a focus on increasing household food security and incomes, and transforming society both on-farm and off-farm, in rural and urban settings.
