MAAIF TO CONSTRUCT 2,7 BILLION SHILLINGS REGIONAL ANIMAL DIAGNOSTICS LABORATORY AND BREEDING CENTER IN SOROTI

MAAIF to construct 2,7 billion shillings Regional Animal Diagnostics Laboratory and Breeding Center in Soroti

 

The leadership of Soroti District Local Government (DLG), alongside officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, has officially launched the construction of the Regional Animal Diagnostics Laboratory and Breeding Center.

The launch, which took place in Katine Sub-County, marks a significant milestone for the region, with the government investing 2.7 billion shillings into the project.

Dr David Achoroi, the Acting District Veterinary Officer said the construction of the regional Animal diagnostics laboratory is to strengthening capacity to respond to animal disease emergencies through Good Emergency Management Practice in Eastern Uganda.

Achoroi said that the laboratory was needed among practitioners in animal health. In regions that record high incidences, surveillance and vaccination in the cattle corridor to be fast-tracked and brought on board.

During the event, Soroti District Chairperson, Hon. Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, emphasized the importance of the project, noting that it will revitalize the cattle economy in Soroti and the surrounding regions.

Edoru said that there was a need to put in place a reporting system that covers the whole Country so that every surveillance practitioner is informed about outbreaks including animal diseases on a weekly basis

Edoru said that He expressed his gratitude to the government for selecting Soroti as the site for this crucial development.

The Chief Guest, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), echoed these sentiments, highlighting the project's timely arrival to address the challenges faced by local farmers. 

"As a district, let us embrace this project," the RDC urged.

The launch event was attended by district and sub-county leaders, as well as members of the local community, all of whom showed strong support for the project, which is expected to significantly improve the region's livestock industry.
